Why Irish?
Why Irish? is an annual colloquium hosted by the Department of Irish Language and Literature. It brings international speakers to campus to examine the fole of the Irish Language in various disciplines.
2008 Colloquium
Joseph Nagy, Professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles, will give a lecture at the University of Notre Dame’s annual “Why Irish?” colloquium
The lecture is hosted by the Department of Irish Language and Literature and is open to the public. It will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, 26th of September in the Hesburgh Center Auditorium. Professor Nagy's lecture is titled “Fionn: the Irish Hero". Finn MacCool (Fionn Mac Cumaill) was the legendary leader of the Fianna, the High King of Ireland's select warriors charged with guarding Ireland from invaders and giants.
